Visitors: Pastor Wayne Shevey, Malachi Hulse

Grade Levels: 10, 11-12

Throughout the semester, we have the privilege of hosting numerous visitors on our campus, enriching our educational environment with their insights and experiences. This opportunity not only allows our students to engage with professionals and alumni but also enhances their understanding of various fields of study and career paths. We are especially fortunate to have some of these distinguished guests join us in our classrooms, where they can interact directly with our students, fostering a dynamic learning atmosphere. Last Thursday and Friday, September 25 and 26, Mr. Jason Schultz welcomed two guests to his theology classes, both of whom brought unique perspectives and valuable information to share with our eager learners.

First, we had the honor of hosting Pastor Wayne Shevey from Wisconsin Lutheran College, who serves as the Pastoral Outreach Coordinator in their Office of Admissions. "Rev Shev," as he is affectionately known, engaged our students in a thought-provoking discussion about the myriad benefits of pursuing a Christian higher education. He emphasized the importance of integrating faith with academic pursuits across various fields at WLC. During his presentation, he illustrated how a Christian worldview can profoundly influence one's approach to education, career choices, and personal development. Pastor Shevey also provided insights into the supportive community at Wisconsin Lutheran College, highlighting how students can grow spiritually and intellectually in an environment that encourages both academic excellence and faith-based living.

Additionally, we were privileged to hear from MLHS alumnus Malachi Hulse '24, who shared his current experiences and the joys of studying for the public ministry at Martin Luther College. Malachi, who is deeply committed to his studies, is actively involved in various aspects of campus life at MLC, serving as a student admissions ambassador. In this role, he plays a crucial part in connecting with prospective students, particularly high school students who are contemplating a future in ministry. He shared with our students the excitement and fulfillment he finds in his studies, as well as the challenges that come with pursuing a calling in the ministry.

Furthermore, Malachi is also a dedicated member of the college football team, which has allowed him to develop leadership skills and build lasting friendships. His experiences on and off the field provide a well-rounded perspective on balancing academics, athletics, and spiritual growth, inspiring our students to consider how they can integrate their passions and faith in their own lives.

These visits not only enrich our theology classes but also serve to inspire our students to think critically about their future paths. By hearing firsthand accounts from individuals who are actively engaged in their fields, students gain a deeper appreciation for the opportunities that lie ahead of them. The insights shared by Pastor Shevey and Malachi Hulse serve as a reminder of the vital connection between education and faith, encouraging our students to explore how they can make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

Celebrate Donor Advised Fund Day – October 9, 2025!

Also known as #DAFday, this national celebration highlights the power of Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)—a simple, flexible, and tax-smart way to support nonprofits like Manitowoc Lutheran High School.

A DAF is a tax-advantaged charitable giving account. You can contribute cash, securities, or illiquid assets, receive an immediate tax deduction, invest the balance tax-free, and make grants to nonprofits over time. Whether you're an individual, couple, family, or company, you can open a DAF at one of 1,150+ providers across the country.

Because MLHS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, you can direct your DAF gifts to support Christian education and student programs anytime. DAFs help donors give bigger thanks to tax savings and added accountability—resulting in more dollars for impact. And DAFs work for every budget: in fact, 69% of DAF gifts are under $1,000!
