Lancer VB is Upended by Howards Grove in Sectional Semis

The varsity volleyball team saw its season come to end in the WIAA sectional semifinal game on Thursday. The Lancers traveled to face a familiar foe in two-time defending state champions, Howards Grove. This was the third time the Lancers faced the Tigers this season, and the energy displayed by both teams was electrifying.

The Lancers lost by scores of 25-10, 25-12, and 25-15. As quoted in the Herald Times Reporter, Howards Grove coach Brett Damrow stated, "We played really crisp. Offensively, that might be the best match we ever played." MLHS coach Lacey Behnke stated "Howards Grove has been one of the top teams in the state the last five years. We knew it would be a dogfight and the fight of our lives."

Leading the Lancers against Howards Grove were seniors Aubry Schleis with 4 kills and Emily Marohn with 3. Junior Jenna Lischka had 7 assists. Serving was the highlight of the evening with 5 Lancers having a perfect 100% placement. Seniors Jenna Gries, Schleis, and Marohn as well as juniors Sam Siehr and Lischka achieved this feat to end the season. Junior Mallory Mehlhorn had 2 ace serves and 5 digs.
