Lancer Girls Win Opener vs. Chilton

The Lancer varsity girls basketball team began its 2021-22 campaign with a non-conference 71-53 win over Chilton last Tuesday in the Lancer gym.

Junior Jenna Lischka led the way with 22 points and 13 rebounds, and senior MonRaye Ermis chipped in 18 points. Coach Mike Behnke was pleased with how the Lancers started their season, "Team Defense is going to be a key for us this year. I thought our on-the-ball pressure and trapping was outstanding. It really helped us to get some baskets in transition. Moving forward that is going to be a big piece for us, as well as rebounding, and we were able to outrebound Chilton. (There is) room to improve, but (it's) a great start for us. Also, we did a good job of attacking the basket and finding ways to get to the free throw line. We shot 22 of 35 (at the line), so we will continue to work on free throws, but getting 35 attempts was a nice start."

Also Tuesday night, the Lancers' JV2 girls team played Chilton's JV team, losing 32-18. Behnke noted, "The (JV2) girls played their first high school game of their careers, and I was very happy with the effort they showed the entire game. I look forward to what the year holds for these ladies."

The Lady Lancers (1-0) will open their conference season tonight (Tuesday), as they host Reedsville for an approximate 7pm tip-off. Our JV1 girls start the action tonight against the Panthers with a 5:50pm game. Then Saturday we face an early-season test as welcome Brillion to our gym for a 2:30pm game (1pm JV1, 11:30am JV2 against Pulaski). Brillion finished 20-2 last year and is favored to win the Eastern Wisconsin Conference this year.
