Lancer Girls Basketball Preview; Home Opener vs. Chilton Tonight (Tuesday)

The Lancer girls varsity basketball team begins its season tonight (Tuesday) with a non-conference game at home against Chilton. Head Coach Mike Behnke welcomes back 10 varsity players from last year’s 11-11 (5-7 Big East North) team, and is counting on his players’ experience and good depth off the bench to be his squad’s main strengths.

Those experienced players from last year’s team include 2021 honorable mention All-Conference senior forward MonRaye Ermis, who will provide strength in the post. Joining Ermis as returning starters are seniors Emily Marohn, Emma Miller, and point guard Sydney Stubbe. Behnke also welcomes back junior Jenna Lischka, who missed last season with an ACL injury after playing a key role as a freshman, as well as seniors Brooklyn Luebke, Aubry Schleis, Brianna Bessler, and Helene Matthias, and juniors Mallory Mehlhorn and Sam Siehr.

Coach Behnke hopes the Lancer girls squad will challenge for a spot in the top half of the 7-team Big East North, which also includes strong competition in 2021 Div. 4 state champion Mishicot and Div. 3 state semi-finalist Howards Grove. Behnke said they are focusing on improved rebounding, and that “we will also need to be more consistent with our outside shooting.”

Come to the Lancer gym Tuesday night to cheer our girls JV and varsity teams to victory in their first games of the season. The JV tip-off is at 5:15pm, with the varsity game to follow at approximately 7:15pm. WOMT radio (1240AM/107.9FM) will be broadcasting the game, with our own Lancer Vision providing a livestream of all our home games this season.

God’s blessings on the start of your basketball season, Lancer Ladies!
