Lancer Express February 14-18, 2022

Staff Message - Renee Schmill

I love music! No, I mean, I really love music! I love making music. I love singing music. I love teaching music. I love directing musicals. I love teaching wind instruments, brass instruments, and percussion instruments! I love music and believe with all my heart that music is one of the most amazing gifts that our God has given us!

And I’m not alone in that belief! Martin Luther expressed this: Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise. The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to man that he should proclaim the Word of God through music.

Thank you, Dr. Luther! I couldn’t agree more!

Music is an amazing gift for us to use in worship--to pray, to praise, and to proclaim. We can sing our favorite hymn and use it to pray to the Lord. We can select a Psalm and praise our Lord for all he has done. We can sing to a roomful of people and powerfully proclaim the good news of salvation.

Music is a gift for all ages. Music was a gift when we were young and our parents sang with us at bedtime and taught us to sing “Jesus Loves Me This I Know.” Music was a gift when we were in grade school, and we joined with our classmates in the Christmas Eve service and sang of the Christ child born in a manger. And music is a gift now as we grow older and grow in our ability to sing, to play instruments, to be in choirs, or maybe just simply to listen and enjoy and be blessed by the gift of music. Yes, music truly is for life! There are no limits to our lifelong enjoyment of music.

I have been blessed during all of my teaching years to share my love and passion for music with students young and old every day. It is my hope and prayer that all of my students can join together with Martin Luther in declaring that music deserves the highest praise, and that music is a powerful tool to proclaim the Word of God.

May we all be encouraged by the Apostle Paul when he said, “. . . be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 5:18b-20)

Senior Ads for the 2021-2022 Yearbook: The Excalibur

This year has been busy and productive! Because pages are so precious, the yearbook staff has set aside six pages for senior ads. They are available at a first come, first served basis. Unfortunately, when the pages are gone – they are gone. Last year, six pages were used without the yearbook staff really knowing how many pages we would need, so we are hoping that will be enough for this year.

Page prices: ½ page: $60 ¼ page: $40 ⅛ page: $20
