The Lancer boys varsity basketball team recorded two more victories this week. On Tuesday the Lancers traveled to St. Mary Catholic of Neenah to take on the Zephyrs. The game was a high scoring affair with three
Lancer boys scoring 20+ points in the 93-89 victory. Leading the charge was sophomore Noah Czarneski with 25 points. Senior Ethan Menges scored 22 points and hauled down a team leading 12 rebounds. Junior Aidan Franzen rounded out the top three with 20 points. Senior Sho Fukasawa had 15 points, 9 assists and 3 steals, while classmate August Hecker had 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals.
On Friday night the Lancers hosted the Hilbert Wolves on Senior Night, defeating them 86-52. It was a full-team affair in the win; 13 Lancers scored in the game, led by our six seniors. Menges had a game-high 26 points and 8 rebounds. Fukasawa recorded 10 points as did junior Aidan Franzen. Other notable senior performances were Ryan Dewane with 7 points and 8 rebounds, Parker Vogt with 4 points and 5 rebounds, Casey Stanzel with 8 points, and Hecker with 4 points, 10 assists and 4 steals. We thank these Lancer seniors for all they have done for the program over the years, and we also thank senior managers, Maddie Franz and Elyria Laurin, for all their work for the team!
JV1 lost to St. Mary this week but defeated Oostburg, and now has an 11-10 record, while JV2 also lost to St. Mary, but defeated Hilbert's JV team and goes to 4-13 on the season.
This week finds our Lancer boys (12-10, 9-8 Big East) playing in two games. First, TONIGHT (Monday), the boys host the Mishicot Indians (3-17, 2-14 Big East North) at 7:15pm. The Lancers defeated the Indians 73-62 back in early December. JV2 hosts Cedar Grove-Belgium at 4:30pm today. The JV1 game against Mishicot has been canceled. This will be the final home game for the boys this season. Then on Thursday the boys travel to face top-ranked Sheboygan Lutheran (21-1, 17-0 Big East South) in their final regular season game. The Crusaders are currently ranked 2nd in the latest coaches poll for Division 4. Our JV1 and JV2 teams will close their seasons with games against the Crusaders; JV2 at 4:30pm and JV1 at 5:50pm. WIAA postseason brackets have been announced. The Lancers received the 9th seed in our region for the Division 4 playoffs, and in first-round action will travel to face #8 seed Oconto High School on Tuesday, March 1st at 7pm. Roncalli has the #1 seed in our region. Good luck gentlemen in your final week of the regular season!
