The Lancer boys varsity basketball team got the year off to a good start with a 58-39 non-conference victory over the Two Rivers Raiders Tuesday night. In this first game of the year the Lancers played with only four returning varsity players. Head Coach Scott Loberger commented, "It showed early on, but after we settled in, everyone was able to contribute and play at a comfortable level."
The Lancers gained 15 points from senior August Hecker and 13 from senior Sho Fukasawa in the win over the Purple Raiders. Hecker also had seven assists, while junior Aidan Franzen had nine rebounds.
The Lancers' JV1 and JV2 teams both lost last week. No information was available on their games.
This week finds the Lancers (1-0) playing two conference games. On Tuesday, we open up conference play at home against Reedsville, who will be playing their first game of the season. JV1 tip-off is scheduled for 5:50pm with varsity to follow at approximately 7:15pm. Then on Friday the boys are home again vs. Howards Grove (2-0). JV2 starts the night off at 4:30pm, with JV1 at 5:50pm and varsity at 7:15pm. WCUB radio (980AM/97.1FM) will broadcast Friday's varsity game, and our own Lancer Vision will provide a livestream of all our home games this season. Both opponents this week are projected to finish high in our conference and both also have potential 1st team all-conference players.
Come to Lancer Circle this week to support our Lancer basketball teams! With limited fans in attendance last year, this year the atmosphere is sure to be electrifying!
