The MLHS girls varsity basketball team climbed to a 7-4 record and is riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Elkhart Lake before Christmas, and then taking the championship at the Two Rivers holiday tournament this past week with wins over Roncalli and Two Rivers.
On Tuesday, Dec. 21st, senior Brooklyn Luebke led the way with 14 points in a 63-36 conference win over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah. Classmates MonRaye Ermis and Emma Miller had 13 and 10 points, respectively. The Lancers now have a 2-3 Big East North conference record.
Then last week the Lancers won a 4-team holiday tournament by first defeating Roncalli 69-50 on Wednesday. Junior Jenna Lischka led all scorers with 29 points; senior Emily Marohn chipped in 10. That evening Reedsville beat Two Rivers at the tournament.
The next day Roncalli beat Reedsville by one point, which set up the chance for us to win the tournament if we could defeat Two Rivers. The Lancers met the challenge, defeating the Raiders 56-48 on Thursday. MonRaye Ermis led the way and had the fourth triple-double in MLHS girls basketball school history with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 11 blocks. Jenna Lischka and Emily Marohn each added 10 points while seniors Sydney Stubbe and Aubry Schleis provided the sparks off the bench and contributed 8 points each.
In JV action over the last two weeks, our girls JV1 team continued their undefeated season, beating Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah on Tues., Dec. 21st. They are now 8-0 on the season.
This week our girls have one game, hosting Hilbert (4-6, 1-4 Big East) at 7:15pm Tuesday night in a conference matchup (JV1, 5:50pm). The following week then starts a 4-game road stretch for our Lady Lancers. God’s blessings to our girls basketball teams in the new year!
