Our Lancers girls basketball team went 1-1 last week, losing on the road Tuesday to Oostburg 68-48, but then defeating Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 52-47 at home Friday. We now own a 12-8 (9-6 Big East) record.
On Tuesday after taking an 11 point lead early in the game against Oostburg, we then slumped and were down 6 points at halftime, 29-23. Fifteen second half turnovers by the Lancers then led to a 20-2 run for Oostburg that put the game out of reach. The Lancers were also out-rebounded by 16 on the night. Junior Jenna Lischka and senior MonRaye Ermis led the way in scoring for the Lancers, with Lischka nabbing 16 points, including 4 treys, and Ermis netting 14.
Friday against the Resorters we took a slim 20-19 lead into halftime, but senior Emma Miller took charge in the second half, scoring 17 of her 22 game-high points to lead the Lancers to victory. She also grabbed 6 rebounds. Lischka added 11 points. It was the first of two Senior Nights for our team, and seniors Emily Marohn, Emma Miller, Sydney Stubbe, Brianna Bessler, Aubry Schleis, Helene Matthias, Brooklyn Luebke, MonRaye Ermis and senior managers Jenna Gries and Taylor Keesling were honored before the game.
JV1 lost to Oostburg 44-34 on Tuesday for just their second loss of the season, but defeated ELG 41-19 on Friday, and they now have a 14-2 record. JV2 defeated Freedom Friday by a score of 37-25 and is 4-5.
The Lady Lancers are home for two games this week, hosting Sheboygan Christian (1-15, 0-15 Big East) Tuesday for a 7:15pm tipoff (no JV games), and then welcoming the conference leading and D4 state-ranked Zephyrs of St. Mary Catholic (19-1, 14-1 Big East) on Thursday, also at 7:15pm (JV1 5:50pm). WOMT (1240AM/107.9FM) will air Thursday’s game, and our own Lancer Vision livestream continues to broadcast all our home basketball games as well.
