Girls BB Team Defeats Reedsville; Falls to Brillion

The Lancer girls basketball team nabbed its first conference win of the season Tuesday, defeating Reedsville 57-50, but then fell to Brillion 51-47 in a tough non-conference matchup Saturday. The Lancers are now 2-1 (1-0 Big East) in the young season.

During the game against the Panthers Tuesday the Lancers had an 18 point lead at one point, but then had a number of turnovers that let the Panthers back in the game. The Lancers righted the ship, however, making free-throws down the stretch to seal the win. Senior Emily Marohn led all scorers with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Junior Jenna Lischka chipped in 13 and seniors MonRaye Ermis and Emma Miller each had 8 points.

Saturday afternoon in the Lancer gym the Lancers played a good first half, but had too many turnovers and could not get themselves back into the game. Jenna Lischka led the way for the Lancers with 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Emma Miller chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds.

Coach Mike Behnke remarked, "Both nights we again struggled with shooting, shooting just 28% from the floor. We have gotten a number of good looks and have not been able to put the ball in the basket consistently. We missed 15 shots from inside of 4 feet on Tuesday, and missed 22 from inside of 4 feet on Saturday. We have to do a better job finishing around the basket."

In JV action last week, JV1 beat Reedsville on Tuesday 19-17. (They only played 12 minute halves due to low program numbers at Reedsville.) They earned another win against Brillion Saturday, on the shoulders of a great defensive night, holding Brillion to 13 points in a 41-13 game and are now 2-0. JV2 played a big Pulaski team on Saturday and had the lead at halftime, but turnovers cost them in the second half, and they lost 50-33, putting their record at 0-2 for the season.

The Lancers will travel for the first time this season, heading to Howards Grove Thursday for a 7:15pm approximate tip-off against the Tigers (2-1, 1-0 Big East). The two schools' JV1 squads start the action that evening with a 5:50pm game.
