13 to State for Track & State T Shirts

Thirteen Manitowoc Lutheran track and field athletes qualified for the State meet at UW-La Crosse next weekend after top-4 finishes at the WIAA Division 3 Sectional meet in Rosholt Thursday. The Lancer girls 4x400m relay team is the Sectional champion, shattering the school record from 2014 in the process with their 4:08.60 race. Those relay athletes are Stevie Brunner, Lilly Mehlhorn, Ava Stuebs, Addie Korte, and alternates Taylor Schuettpelz and Peyton Luebke. The previous record was 4:12.08.

Another school record was broken by our boys 4x800m relay team, which qualified for State by finishing third in 8:29.44. The previous record, from 1999, was 8:30.28. Our 4x800 team consists of juniors Jacob Kanzenbach, Joey Ungemach, Ryder Vogt, and Braden Revak and alternates James Glodowski and Gabe Stuebs.

Junior Bitsy Blauert jumped a personal-best 17' 0" in the girls long jump to qualify for State with a second place finish at Sectionals. And Gabe Stuebs will be competing at State in the boys 400m, as he finished third in 51.30 seconds.

Many of our other Sectional athletes who didn't qualify for State still achieved personal-best times and distances at Sectionals. On the girls side, Marissa Mehlhorn finished 7th in girls long jump with a personal-best 16' .25" jump. Our girls 4x800m relay (Selah Schulz, Korte, Luebke, and Stuebs) finished 6th (10:22.71), while our girls 4x100m relay finished 10th in 53.05 (Maren Dewane, Brooke Duveneck, Marissa Mehlhorn, and Brunner). Makiah Krause finished 8th in the 300m Hurdles (51.19), 10th in the triple jump (31' 6.5"), and 14th in 100m Hurdles (18.47). Bitsy Blauert was 10th in the 200m (28.00) while Maren Dewane was 13th (28.55). Peyton Luebke was 10th in the 800m (2:37.51), Selah Schulz finished 14th in the 1600m (6:23.06), and Ginevra Ermis finished 15th in shot put (29' 2.75").

Other Lancer boys results at Sectionals include Jacob Kanzenbach finishing 5th in the 800m (2:02.75). Trenton Schuettpelz, who finished 8th in the 110m Hurdles (16.36), tied for 9th in the high jump (5' 10"), and 13th in triple jump (39' 7.5"). Freshman James Glodowski took 9th in the 1600m (4:54.38). Our boys 4x400m relay team took 9th in 3:36.70 (Stuebs, Noah Dillon, Revak, and Kanzenbach), our 4x100m relay took 12th in 47.27 (Emett Brodtke, Ben Harrison, Matthias Buege, and Dillon), and our 4x200m relay took 13th in 1:37.83 (Kamden Baye, Harrison, Buege, and Dillon), Matthias Buege took 16th in the long jump (17' 3.25").

The State Track and Field Championships will be held Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st at UW-La Crosse. Details will be announced later about a sendoff for our state-bound athletes on Thursday, May 30th.
