MLHS FINE ARTS NEWSLETTER - JANUARY 2025

“In addition to giving our children the science and math skills they need to compete in the new global context, we should also encourage the ability to think creatively that comes from a meaningful arts education.” —Barack Obama

Newsies

Come see the MLHS production of Disney’s Newsies March 14 & 15 at 7pm or March 16 at

2pm in the Aux Gym. This high energy musical portrays a struggle for justice and a better life as young newsies seize the day when they strike against the powerful publishing titans. You don’t want to miss it!

WSMA Solo & Ensemble

Thank you to all who helped make WSMA a successful event! Whether providing food, donations, monitoring rooms, working concessions, accompanying, or anything else you may have done, we are so appreciative and could not do it without the support of our Lancer family. We saw immense growth in our students throughout the process of preparing for the day and now can use the feedback from the adjudicators to continue that growth. We have 47 events moving on to State at UW-Green Bay on May 3rd. You may see all of these events perform at the Starred First Concert on April 30th.

Non-Fine Arts Activities: Robotics, E-Sports Favorite Genre of Music: “I’m a big fan of classical piano music and jazz music but with a healthy dose of classic rock.”

Highlight of MLHS Fine Arts: “I think some of my biggest highlights of fine arts have been on bus rides to and from fine arts events. As much as I love performing, spending time with fellow students is a lot of fun.”

Reason for Nomination: With a busy schedule and lots to worry about, Elijah has consistently attended Forensics practice, he earned all perfect scores at our Subdistrict meet and always watches his teammates perform during practices to offer thoughtful critiques and advice. He has been a reliable and helpful senior captain for the team and we appreciate him.

All are welcome to attend—we hope to see you there!

MARCH 2025 FINE ARTS SCHEDULE

Tip 3 Free time is creative time!

So many children have every day scheduled down to the minute. This leaves little precious time for play and imagination. Unstructured time is just as important as soccer practice or dance lessons. This is when your child will have more freedom to create and explore their imagination.

WELS National Band Festival—March 7-9

Abby Huehn (10), Elizabeth Vogt (10), Bowen Gaedtke (12), Logan Brooks (12), Elijah Ruddat (12), Joey Ungemach (12), and Ricky Li (12) have been selected to represent MLHS at the WELS National Band Festival being held at Martin Luther College on March 7-9. Angel Bartelt (10) will be attending in Logan’s place due to a conflict with basketball play-offs.
