What is the National Honor Society (NHS)?
Being a member of the National Honor Society means that you would join a select group of students throughout the country,
who have excelled in areas of:

Service to church, school, community
Membership is recognized as one of the highest distinctions that a high school student can receive.
Eligible candidates for membership in the MLHS Chapter of the National Honor Society have maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA) after five semesters of at least 3.500. They will be notified by letter in the spring of their junior year.
No one is required to become a member of this society. Obligations of membership require the same academic achievement through the remaining time in high school. They must have a 3.500 cumulative average after 6 and 7 semesters to remain a member during their senior year.  They will lose membership if their total GPA falls below 3.500. They will also be expected to participate in several volunteer opportunities within Manitowoc Lutheran High School as well as community activities. MLHS co-curricular conduct code is expected of all NHS members.
If you wish to be a part of NHS, you must complete all parts of the application and return all forms including recommendations to the NHS advisor by the deadline. After a review of the activity sheets and the confidential evaluations, the National Honor Society Committee will reach a decision and notify applicants if they have been chosen. The judgment of the committee is binding with no explanation required for its decision.  A brief ceremony will be held after chapel when formal induction into the National Honor Society will take place.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend this ceremony.
In the past NHS members have participated in Relay for Life, hosted a basketball camp for K-4, organized blood drives at MLHS, and participated in a service trip to help out a WELS congregation or school.
